The home page link was the issue – here is the answer from Sakin:
Custom Menus are lot better function of WordPress. I see your problem when using custom Menu. You (Dan) added the Home link through “Custom Links”. You (Dan) need to add it through “Pages => View All” then select Home and then click on add to menu. I (Sakin) have added home for your at this time.

This solved my problem and the menu navigation works great on android, iphone an ipdad.
